The problem

AI is very good at sounding right. Being right depends on where you are.

Engineers now use AI assistants for ordinary work — interpreting specifications, drafting technical documents, checking calculations, answering questions about standards. The answers read well. But when the correct answer depends on which country you are in, reading well is not the same as being right.

Worked exampleDE · Eurocode 3

An engineer in Germany asks an AI assistant to check a steel connection to Eurocode 3. The assistant produces a clear, confident, well formatted answer using the recommended default value from the base standard.

But Germany publishes a National Annex — a national supplement that overrides the default — and the German value is the one that governs.

Perfect grammar · correct vocabulary · every existing quality check passes it

The answer is wrong.
It would fail inspection.

EU

A declaration of conformity cites a harmonised standard that has been superseded. The document is fluent; the reference is dead.

GB

A technical file is prepared to CE requirements when the product is going to Great Britain and needs UKCA marking instead.

DE

A drawing tolerance is interpreted under the American convention when the drawing was produced to the European one. Same numbers, different part.

The gap

A well served market — except for this.

Large, well funded companies sit in the adjacent spaces. The market is well served for language, expertise and process. It is unserved for the question a working engineer actually has: is this answer right, here, under our rules?

Translation companies

Sell fluency. They confirm the German is good German. They do not check whether the engineering underneath complies with German practice.

Expert marketplaces

Sell credentials. They find you a qualified engineer — built around scarce expertise for frontier research, not everyday commercial work in a specific jurisdiction.

AI governance software

Sells process assurance. It certifies that you have policies, audit logs and documentation. It does not check whether any individual answer is correct.
